Brisbane: India Wins series with 2-1 ! In an exciting final session, India pulled off a record run-chase to give Australia their first loss since 1988 at Brisbane’s Gabba ground and clinch Tuesday’s four-Test series 2-1. Wins series with 2-1!

With a swashbuckling 89 not out, Rishabh Pant shone as the injury-depleted visitors overhauled the 328-run mark with three overs to go, winning by three wickets.

In the fourth test to claim the 2-1 series and hold the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at The Gabba on Tuesday, a fearless India, powered by its valiant young people, pulled out of an exhilarating three-wicket victory over Australia.

India overhauled the goal with 18 balls to spare in a match that went down to the wire, resuming at four for none on the final day.

With his aggressive, yet mature, unbeaten 89, Rishabh Pant led the chase while Shubman Gill scored 91.

In a dogged 56-run knock that he lifted with a 211-ball vigil, Cheteshwar Pujara suffered several debilitating blows on his body.

Australia, though India hit back with a victory in Melbourne, claimed the pink-ball Adelaide Test. The third Sydney Test resulted in a draw.

India claimed a landmark Down Under test series two years ago, and now the team is cherishing victory in the back-to-back series.

Prior to winning the T20 series that followed the Test rubber, the visitors had lost the ODI series.

Early on, India missed seasoned vice captain Rohit Sharma (7) at the beginning, but young Gill rose to the occasion with an outstanding knock that kept India hunting as Pujara dug heels at the other end.


With his short but attacking 24-run knock before his seventh dismissal, Rahane attempted to improve on the strong start.

India still had a shot to get to the kill with Pant’s willingness to hit the ball at a brisk pace.

In the final session, Pant pulled off some breathtaking cover drives off Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, while he suffered from a missed stumping opportunity.

Indian Prime Minister Narinder Modi tweeted to congratulate team India over their massive victory.
