An article was published by New York times, which claims that the Russian assassination unit secretly supported the Afghan Taliban in Afghanistan with bounties to kill US troops. The aim of Russia is to stop the peace talks between the United States and the Taliban.

The article further mentioned that Trump and the White House security officials were made aware of this in a briefing in late March 2020. White House made a complaint to Moscow and a demand that it stop. Knowing the severity of the issue, Trump did not take any action against Russia. Rather, he is helping Russia to rejoin the G7.
