Pakistan in line to became the next Polio-free country. This year in August, the African area was recognized as safe of feral polio after more than 30 years of commitment, and Pakistan might be the next nation on the road to a polio-free planet, Country Delegate Dr. Palitha Mahipala of the World Health Organization said on Saturday.

Dr. Mahipala spoke at a World Polio Day event to acknowledge the commitment of Pakistan’s government, polio employees, nurses, civil society, and donors to the war against polio in the nation.

The campaigns against polio have been affected due to tremendous obstacles, such as myths about vaccinations and the Covid-19 lockdowns. Through its allies, the polio program has now been able to scale up operations that are vitalized by the resolution to end polio in Pakistan, as Africa has recently done, ” he added

Dr. Mahipala noted that the initiative and supporters for the eradication of polio affirmed that they will remain undeterred and encouraged all to get behind this national cause.

He added that, while helping the government in the campaign to eliminate polio, global partners, including WHO and Unicef, have contributed greatly to the ultimate goal of a polio-free country.

However, he said, more is needed to eliminate the disease once and for all; the relentless work of more than 260,000 frontline staff is a crucial factor in its progress.

“Dr. Palitha said:” In this endeavor, they are our true heroes, and with the support provided, they have made us proud by vaccinating millions of children in each campaign.

He added that it is the government, clinicians and parents’ moral and social responsibility to undertake their constructive part in vaccinating children against the disease.

As part of the current initiatives, the next sub – regional programme to eliminate polio will commence on 26 October, promising to vaccinate more than 31 million children under the age of five.

The campaign will include 33 Punjab and Balochistan districts each, 41 Sindh districts and cities, eight Gilgit Baltistan districts, 10 Azad Kashmir districts and one Khyber Pakhtunkhwa district each.

Services have since been resumed in all routine immunization centers and parents have been advised to vaccinate their children against all preventable diseases according to the recommended plan.
