Civilians Killed in Panjshir 2021

Civilians killed in riots by Taliban in Panjshir 2021! At least 20 civilians have been murdered, according to the media, in Afghanistan’s Panjshir Valley, which has experienced combat between Taliban and opposition troops. Despite Taliban vows of moderation, communications in the valley have been severed, making reporting impossible, although the BBC has evidence of Taliban killings.

A man in military gear is seen surrounded by Taliban fighters on a dirt roadway in Panjshir. He slumps to the ground as gunshots ring out.

It’s unclear whether the individual slain was a member of the army; combat clothes are ubiquitous in the area. A bystander on the video claimed to be a civilian.

According to the reports, at least 20 such deaths have occurred in Panjshir.

Abdul Sami, a shopkeeper, and father of two were one of the fatalities.

According to local authorities, the man refused to escape when the Taliban approached, telling them, “I’m just a poor shop owner with nothing to do with war.”

However, he was apprehended and charged with selling SIM cards to resistance members. His body was discarded near his home a few days later. Witnesses who saw his body stated he appeared to have been tortured.

Only one region resisted the Taliban’s takeover last month.

In Afghanistan, the Panjshir Valley has historically been a hotbed of resistance. The region was able to defeat both Soviet and Taliban forces under the leadership of opposition commander Ahmad Shah Massoud. The valley is surrounded by mountain peaks, making it difficult to photograph.

When the Taliban retook control of Afghanistan for the second time, Massoud’s son Ahmad led the struggle, but the militant organization declared victory last week, posting footage of their men raising their flag.

Ahmad Massoud has called for a “national insurrection” against the Taliban.

With the Taliban in control of Panjshir, as well as the rest of Afghanistan, all eyes are on what happens next.

When the Taliban arrived in the valley, they encouraged inhabitants to go about their daily lives as usual.

“They should come out and do their everyday duties,” said Malavi Abdullah Rahmani, a spokeswoman.

“They can go to their stores if they are shopkeepers. They can go to their farms if they are farmers. We’ve come to safeguard them, their life, and their loved ones.”

Instead, imagery from the ground reveals abandoned marketplaces that were previously bustling. Long lines of vehicles have formed below the valley’s jagged peaks as people try to leave.

There have been worries about food and pharmaceutical shortages.

Taliban deny deaths

The Taliban has denied that civilians are being targeted. However, it comes after claims of a massacre of Hazara minority members and the murder of a policewoman, indicating that the reality on the ground differs from the Taliban’s vows of no retaliation assaults.

“These reports seem to fit into a pattern that we’ve already documented throughout Afghanistan,” Human Rights Watch’s Patricia Grossman said.

“As the Taliban advanced towards Kabul in July and August, we received similar allegations and were able to verify summary executions of former security personnel, government officials, and civilians, frequently in retaliation.” This appears to be a pretty similar pattern.
